A Closer Look at: WORKING in Downtown Johnson City

Miracle's Coffee House
Johnson City became a city because of its downtown - an historic hotspot for commerce and a hub of social and political activity.

The town sprang up around the railroad, and downtown was one of a few sites in the Eastern United States where North/South and East/West lines converged. Tourists, retail goods and natural resources were some of the items that found their way on and off the trains in downtown Johnson City in the early years. Major roadways to neighboring cities passed directly through downtown as well.

Johnson City takes pride in its pro-business climate. Many things have changed since our early days as a major railroad stop. But one thing is for sure - retail stores, technology companies, professional service firms, small manufacturing operations, restaurants, night clubs and entertainment venues of all varieties can find a profitable and supportive home in downtown Johnson City.

Among our assets:

    * a variety of commercial spaces, which can be easily adapted to suit any need.
    * real estate prices in a range to please everyone from the budget conscious new business owner to the luxury-minded entrepreneur looking for a truly unique location.
    * access to high-speed Internet backbones.
    * incentive programs and federal income tax credits for those who qualify.
    * an enthusiastic business network and residential community interested in the success of downtown.
    * urban amenities within walking distance, including housing, dining, parks, schools and entertainment.

We encourage you to explore the companies, properties and people who make working in downtown an exciting experience everyday!
